It’s 2011 already! We wanted to take the opportunity to send a Happy New Year to all of our clients and colleagues. At the end of last year, Mia Gyzander Costumes moved to a new location inNorth Hollywood, and we have settled into our new surroundings. We’ve continued to create costumes for a diverse blend of entertainment projects. In the past year, these have included musical tours, television, and live performance.

USHER • OMG Tour
For Usher’s OMG Worldwide Tour, currently out on the road, our team constructed Usher’s white suit. The suit is quilted with a mix of materials that gives it texture and dimension. The overall look is classy and modern. The dancers wear costumes with a futuristic influence. Their outfits are made with multiple black vinyl straps that are studded. All pieces were built for vigorous dance movements and the durability required for 25 live performances.

FX CHANNEL • ALABAMA, Eddie Izzard
Working with costume designer MaryAnn Bozek, MGC constructed several costumes for the new comedy pilot, Alabama. This included a suit for British comedian, Eddie Izzard. Alabama has been described by the Hollywood Reporter Live Feed blog as an “unofficial Star Trek parody.

VENETIAN, LAS VEGAS • The Host
With a new show being pitched at The Venetian, Mia was asked to design a host character inspired by America’s Got Talent, Prince Poppycock. The design is whimsical and richly detailed with a renaissance look.

NUTCRACKER • Mother Ginger
A classic production and a huge costume presented a fun challenge for the skilled team of craftspeople at MGC. The whole piece had to be collapsible so that it could travel to various venues. A performer stands on a ladder, with an understructure that supports an enormous skirt, under which a group of children huddles. |

Currently we are finishing up costumes for an atmosphere show at Universal Studios, Japan. Other projects over the past year include a styling assignment promoting Lexus’ new CT 200H Worldwide Tour, WaterWorld costumes, Universal Singapore, and silver unitards for the game show, Hole in the Wall. |
